Mental Health Awareness Month 2021

Dear MHAS Supporter,

For more than 70 years, May has been observed as Mental Health Awareness Month (also known as "Mental Health Month") and served as a powerful reminder that mental health and supportive services are key to our collective wellbeing.

During the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic recession have negatively impacted the mental health of so many around us and created additional barriers for people who were already experiencing mental illnesses. As we look forward to reopening and recovery in the months to come, MHAS will be one of the stops that these individuals make on their path to a fresh new start.

Our work is driven by the desire to help our clients access the resources they need to achieve autonomy and self-sufficiency, and to live a life they choose rather than one that is chosen for them by others. To achieve this, MHAS has spent the past year strengthening our partnerships with mental health organizations, health care providers, and other community-based organizations so that we can together provide better and more holistic services to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, please consider making a donation to help MHAS continue its mission of protecting and advancing the rights of people with mental health disabilities.

With your help, MHAS clients—like Tommy and Luz whose stories are included below—will be able to achieve financial and housing stability, improve their health outcomes, and benefit from a fresh start.

Thank you for your continued support of our mission, our advocates, and our clients.

Sincerely,

Jenny Farrell
Executive Director
